Take this musical audio tour through the pages of Sheila Weller's best-selling book Girls Like Us: Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon and the Journey of a Generation.
The book is filled with references to all the songs and music that influenced these three women, as well as the music from fellow artists whose paths intersected with them along the way. While reading Girls Like Us, my curiousity about many of the songs / music / bands mentioned led me to look them up online and listen to clips of the music. I found it so engaging and educational that I started this website to "share the journey" with fellow music lovers.
"This site is a live museum of what we all heard growing up in the baby boomer generation. It's a perfect companion to the book - I love it!" Sheila Weller
Page numbers refer to the page in book where the music is referenced. The text printed is a tiny portion of the story being told in Girls Like Us and isn't intended to be a complete storyline on it's own.
Note: This site is not officially affiliated with Ms. Weller or Atria Books, but we have acquired express permission to use portions of the text from the book Girls Like Us: Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon and the Journey of a Generation.

Kudos to the magnificent Jodie Wright for painstakingly creating this one-of-a-kind website!

I love music. Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness.

Hi Sheila,
Been traveling 'round Florida, Georgia, South and North Carolina in my air conditioned travel trailer, two vehicle caravan. Haven't been on line much. Answering your question:our mineral that cures is Precambrian Oxide at MiracleMinerals.org. Make sure "Minerals" is plural or you'll get the liquid that makes people nauseous. They embedded our mineral in a liquid that has side effects. Having a wonderful time rollin on down the road in total freedom, superb health, on a highway paved with poetic concrete images.

This is totally awesome - I LOVE this site and all the music on it!! And I especially love the book which brought me straight back to my best friend's apple-green shag carpet and our favorite albums that got us through each day and taught us how great it was to be female!

So great. TIming perfect. I'm in the late 60's chapters right now and have been splitting time between book and itunes as I look up songs that I don't recall. Thank you Jodie. I'll bookmark this.
